Description:
The Marine 1 Firehouse on Manhattan’s west side, juts out into the Hudson River with a strong, well-grounded shape resembling a rock or ice. Because of hurricane disaster mitigation, the building mechanicals are on the upper floors.

Goal:
I was given early access to document this unique piece of maritime infrastructure just before it became fully operational. I wanted to feature the zinc cladding and show how the building appears to float on the dock.

Approach:
In order to get a photo of the Firehouse in the context of NYC, my client and I were able to negotiate a ride on the SAFE Rescue boat with the NYFD boat pilots. This enabled me to get shots of the new Firehouse perched on the shores of the Hudson with the Empire State Building behind it.
